Abstract

This paper builds upon our previous pilot study using a telephone triage service for traumatic brain injury (TBI) referrals. We have investigated effects of this new service on waiting times, attendance rates and use of clinical time during the first year of implementation. Waiting times reduced, 36 clinical hours were saved, and contrary to our predictions, the ‘did not attend’ (DNA) rate increased. Likely reasons for this unanticipated outcome are discussed, and further projects are recommended.
