Abstract
This article describes the Abbreviated Westmead Post-traumatic Amnesia Scale (A-WPTAS), a measure that extends the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) with three picture cards to measure amnesia. The A-WPTAS has been shown to identify individuals with an optimal GCS score of 15/15 who are in PTA. The scale is more sensitive than the GCS alone and improves identification of mild traumatic brain injury in individuals presenting to an Emergency Department with a suspected closed head injury.
