Hierarchical integration of mitochondrial and nuclear positioning pathways by the Num1 EF hand

Abstract

Num1 anchors mitochondria and dynein to the cell cortex. We found that the EF hand of Num1 and its ability to bind calcium function to couple dynein anchoring and activity in nuclear inheritance to the presence of mitochondria in the bud, providing a spatiotemporal mechanism to bias mitochondrial inheritance before nuclear inheritance.
