Abstract
Propofol is a widely used general anesthetic that reduces kinesin run lengths in vitro, suggesting the hypothesis that propofol may disrupt anterograde kinesin transport in neurons. Here we find that propofol treatment of hippocampal neurons decreased vesicle transport mediated by KIF5 and KIF1A, delayed delivery of the cargo to the distal axon, and reduced axonal vesicle fusion.
