Abstract
The nucleolus is a multilayered, membraneless organelle consisting of ribosomal DNA surrounded by liquidlike biogenesis compartments. We show that the budding yeast rDNA binding protein Hmo1 is mobile within but efficiently retained inside the nucleolus by interactions with the central chromatin as well as the adjacent biogenesis compartment.
