Abstract

Toxoplasma gondiibelongs to theApicomplexaphylum, which comprises more than 5,000 species, among which isPlasmodium falciparum, the notorious agent of human malaria. Intriguingly, theApicomplexagenomes encode at least one phosphatase closely related to the bacterialSchewanellaphosphatase, or Shelph.
