Abstract
ABSTRACT
The excretion of 17-ketosteroids (17-KS) and 17-ketogenic steroids (17-KGS) has been studied in 7 postmenopausal women and 4 men before and during administration of 17α-ethynyl-19-nor-testosterone-acetate (ANTA). In one 34 year old oophorectomized patient the excretion of 17-KS and 17-KGS was followed after intramuscular injection of 17α-ethynyl-19-nor-testosterone-oenanthate (ANTO). Administration of ANTA (20, 60, 100 or 200 mg/day) did not cause any significant alteration in the excretion of 17-KS and 17-KGS. After intramuscular injection of 100 or 200 mg ANTO no change in the excretion of 17-KS and 17-KGS was observed. In one postmenopausal woman and in 2 men the administration of 60 or 100 mg ANTA/day led to a pronounced increase in the excretion of urinary oestrogens. The increase in the oestradiol fraction was due to the formation of 17α-ethynyl-17β-oestradiol. The highest values were found in the oestrone fraction; by applying various micromethods, oestrone was isolated and identified by its melting point. The excretion of oestriol remained unchanged during the administration of ANTA.
