Enhancing cross-sectoral linkages in Nigerian forestry.

Abstract

This chapter discusses the national and sectoral development planning addressing forestry issues in Nigeria. The development of a national forestry action plan between 1989 and 1996 and of the National Forest Programme in 2002 are addressed. The recognition of cross-linkages between forestry and other sectors had led to increased recognition of multiple stakeholders' participation in forest policy planning and implementation towards achieving sustainable management of the dwindling forest resources. Some restraining factors influencing the effectiveness of cross-sectoral linkages in the forestry sector are discussed.
