Abstract
This study was conducted to measure the effect of field inoculations of Septoria avenae and BYDV on disease symptoms, grain yield, 1,000-kernel weight, percent hull and plant height of three oat cultivars having different types of disease reactions. Our data show that S. avenae contributed to a yield loss of 8.9% in insecticide-treated plots, and 18.4% in BYDV-inoculated plots, on the average of three cultivars. Similar effects on leaf symptoms, 1,000-kernel weights and percent hull concur to indicate that BYDV predisposes oat plants to heavier damage by septoria leaf blotch.
