Abstract
In England, the red side of the fruit of the cider apple cultivar Yarlington Mill is more susceptible to apple scab, caused by Venturia inaequalis, than the green side. The skin of the red side was smoother and more easily wetted, contained less surface and embedded wax and more nitrogen, and had a thinner cuticle than the skin of the green side. These differences may affect the fungus at the penetration phase of infection.
