Abstract
A variety of dietary ingredients has been fed at variable levels in six experiments involving 3,961 growing poults. Herring fishmeal at up to 10% did not influence body weight gains. Meat and bone meal (7.5 and 15%) reduced body weight gains but not feed conversion. Neither a commercial fermentation residue product, distillers’ dried solubles, dried brewers’ yeast, partly delactosed whey nor combinations of some of these with dehydrated alfalfa influenced growth or feed conversion efficiency. Most of the ingredients studied are considered useful sources of nutrients but without special growth-promoting activity (so-called unidentified growth factors) in practical diets of Western Canadian ingredients.
