Abstract

A spectrophotometric method for the measurement of blood O2 saturation utilizing Triton X-100 as the hemolytic agent is described. The results of its comparison with the standard manometric method indicate that it provides reliable values for blood O2 saturation. Triton X-100 was found to be a more suitable hemolytic agent than saponin. A nomogram is presented which facilitates the calculation of percentage of O2 saturation from the measurements required by the method. Submitted on August 27, 1958
