Abstract

Agricultural workers have a higher prevalence of occupational respiratory symptoms and are at greater risk of developing respiratory diseases. However, gastrointestinal complications have also been reported, yet the intestinal pathophysiology is understudied. This work is novel because it emphasizes the role of an inhaled environmental pollutant on the development of intestinal pathophysiological outcomes. This work will provide foundation for other studies evaluating how agricultural dusts disrupts host physiology and promotes debilitating gastrointestinal and systemic disorders.
