Proinflammatory cytokines inhibit thiamin uptake by human and mouse pancreatic acinar cells: involvement of transcriptional mechanism(s)

Abstract

Findings of the current study demonstrate, for the first time, that exposure of pancreatic acinar cells to proinflammatory cytokines (including hyper IL-6) cause significant inhibition in vitamin B1 (thiamin; a micronutrient that is essential for normal cellular energy metabolism) and that this effect is mediated at the level of transcription of the thiamin transporter genes SLC19A2 and SLC19A3.
