Abstract
A single injection of ACTH and acute stress (restraint) were followed in 6 hours by nonstatistically significant decreases in total Δ4-3-keto-corticosteroids in adrenals and plasma and a statistically significant ( P < .05) blood acidophilia. Chronic treatment (7 or 15 days) produced statistically significant changes in free Δ4-3-keto-corticosteroids in adrenals following ACTH (>); hexestrol (<); hydrocortisone (<); and o,p'-DDD (<) and in plasma following hexestrol (<). o,p'-DDD produced a statistically significant ( P < .025) decrease in total steroids of plasma. Possible physiologic explanations for these effects are discussed.
