Abstract

We highlight that glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is maintained during simulated occupational heat stress across a range of total work, work-rest ratios, and wet-bulb globe temperatures with ad libitum consumption of an electrolyte and sugar-containing sports drink. Compared with a work-rest matched compliant trial, noncompliance resulted in augmented heat strain but did not induce a reduction in GFR likely due to an increased relative fluid intake and robust fluid conservatory responses.
