The effect of cranberry juice on bone growth and development using an animal model

Abstract

Abstract The aim of the study was to analyze the effect of cranberry juice on bone microstructure. The research was carried out on an animal model (experimental animals, Windstar rats). The structure of the proximal tibial metaphysis was analyzed using micro CT, and X-ray microtomography equipment with a VDS 1.3Mp FW camera. It was found that cranberry juice increased bone mineral density (BMD). It also increased the thickness of the bone trabeculae (Tb.Th). The highest BMD value was observed in group drinking a 10% concentration of cranberry juice. In rats drinking 25% concentration, an increase in Tb.Th was observed compared to the two other groups, including the control group.
