Abstract

Abstract Cytosine arabinoside is a new chemotherapeutic agent which inhibits DNA synthesis and has shown activity against experimental DNA virus infections. This drug was used to treat a 65 year old man with an IgG, Type K serum pyroglobulin accompanying a lymphoproliferative disorder who developed a fulminant, disseminated herpes zoster infection. Rapid attenuation of his disease was apparent. No new skin lesions developed after the second day of treatment and within 6 weeks the patient had achieved a complete recovery from his viral disease.
