An Overview of Established SPME Based Methods by EPA, ISO, and ASTM

Abstract

This chapter offers an overview of analytical methods based on SPME which are currently recommended by regulatory organizations for being used in routine analysis. Moreover, it gives an overview of the conducted comparative inter-laboratory studies which have been carried out to date to show that SPME methods are capable of yielding comparable – if not superior results – to those obtained by conventional methods. This could be considered as a promising step for increasing the adoption of SPME in recommended operating procedures by regulatory agencies, while SPME methods continue to be developed, optimized, validated, and commercialized.
