Abstract
Attaching phenanthroline to thiourea locks the conformation to anti–anti, thereby speeding up the Michael Addition. Adding copper(i)-loaded phenanthroline alters it to syn–anti via HETPHEN-type complex formation, thereby switching off the reaction.
