Why a simple vanadate is inefficient as a catalyst in the oxidation of alkanes with H2O2 – the long-standing puzzle is solved

Abstract

Generation of HO˙ in a vanadate/H2O2(aq)/MeCN system occurs via a newly proposed non-innocent ligand mechanism. The low catalytic activity of the simple vanadate toward alkane oxidation with H2O2 is explained by a side reaction of H2O2 dismutation.
