Reduction of Eu3+ due to a change of the topological structure of the BO3 unit in borate glass

Abstract
A reduction of Eu3+ into Eu2+ is observed in a borate glass matrix prepared under air conditions without any reductant. The remarkable reduction process is due to the changing of the topological structure of the BO3 triangle.
