Abstract

The Globalization of Wine is a definitive guide to understanding wine across the world today. Examining recent developments in the wine industry, it considers the social, cultural, economic, political, and geographical dimensions of wine globalization and investigates how large-scale changes in consumption and production are profoundly transforming the world of wine. A comprehensive introduction provides an overview of the field and key debates within it. Vivid case studies from an impressive range of international contributors present an empirically-grounded illustration of the wider points raised. Covering both major and emerging regions of production and consumption, the regions and countries featured include both classic regions like Burgundy and Bordeaux, newer big players like Australia and New Zealand, and new entrants like England and China. The authors’ backgrounds in multiple disciplines allows the text to present a truly interdisciplinary approach to changing wine world dynamics. Innovative, up-to-date and highly readable, The Globalization of Wine illustrates the diversity and rapidity of wine globalization processes across the planet. Essential reading for students as well and researchers in food and drink studies, sociology, anthropology, political science, globalization studies, geography, and cultural studies.
