A systematic study of 260 000 stars produced by 4.3 GeV/

interaction stars, both in Ilford G 5 nuclear emulsion, yielded 46 hypernuclei decaying by the mesonic mode. The identification of these events is described and the binding energy of the Λ

hyperon in the nucleus is calculated in each case with the help of a program written for the Ferranti Mercury computer. The binding energies of the uniquely identified hypernuclei are found to be as follows: 4 cases of

The quoted errors in the binding energies are random errors; contributions from systematic sources are discussed and they amount to about 0.3 MeV.
