Abstract
A series of nine new 3-(4-fluoro-3-methylphenyl)-5-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole (FMPDHP) derivatives 2(a-i) was synthesized through 1,4 Michael addition of fluorinated chalcones 1(a-i) with hydrazine hydrate, followed by intramolecular cyclization. All the synthesized compounds were screened for their antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli (MCC 2412), Staphylococcus aureus (MCC 2408), Bacillus subtilis (MCC 2010), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MCC 2080) by measuring the inhibition zones surrounding the discs that have their DMF solutions labeled on them. The compounds 2g, 2d, and 2i were most effective against some microorganism and demonstrated significant antibacterial activity against these pathogens. Investigations were also conducted into the substituents' effects on antibacterial activity.. KEYWORDS :Biological activities, Chalcone, Michael addition reaction, Pyrazoline, Synthesis.
