4. (b) (Me5C5)2 TiCl2 [5] (0.388 g) in dry, O2-free tetrahydrofuran (THF) was added dropwise to a THF solution of sulfur (molar ratio 1:3/8 S8) and Li2S2. The solution was stirred under nitrogen for 1 h at room temperature and refluxed for a further 10.5 h. The solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue extracted with 2 × 25 ml of CH2Cl2. The solution was filtered and evaporated to dryness in vacuo to give a deep purple microcrystalline solid which was recrystallized from THF/pentane to afford black crystals (55%; m.p. 149 ?152°).
5. (a) An unsymmetrical bonding mode has been observed for the allyl ligand in (C5H5)2TiC5H9;
