Abstract
AbstractA brief survey is given of the prevailing methods for (im)purity determination. Subsequently a more detailed and critical report is presented on the development and present state of thermal analysis. The theories on this subject have been extended to multicomponent systems forming solid solutions. General considerations concerning the apparatuses used in thermal analysis have been included. The paper intends to show the wide possibilities and limitations of thermal analysis as a method for (im)purity determination.
