1. Dr Marcus Bicknell is a specialist GP providing residential alcohol and drug treatment at The Level in Nottingham, provides GP services to the Priory Group and Cygnet Health, is an associate of JRB Healthcare, chairs the BMA's Forensic and Secure Environments Committee, is a member of the RCGP Secure Environments Group, and is Honorary Treasurer to RCGP Vale of Trent Faculty.

2. Dr Catherine Glover is a principal GP who has delivered clinical care to prisoners for over 10 years and has led on the work of assisted withdrawal from gabapentinoids in patients using opioids and developed prisoner care pathways with the local hospital.

3. Dr Nat Wright is a GP who has provided clinical care to prisoners for 20 years, has led on research projects and service reviews seeking to evaluate the quality of care offered to prisoners and wider marginalised groups and has written extensively on care provision to drug users

Abstract

Prescribers in prisons and other secure settings play a key role in supporting the well‐being of prisoners. As part of our series on medicines optimisation in people with additional needs, this article discusses the issues healthcare professionals should consider to ensure safe, optimised prescribing for people who are imprisoned.
