Abstract
William A. Gamson, former President of the American Sociological Association and Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, was a prolific scholar whose work helped articulate both the conflict perspective in sociology and the resource mobilization approach in social movements. In the field of social movements in the United States, Gamson also helped to bring back social psychology after its temporary hiatus, and his work on framing and political consciousness, more broadly, has spawned numerous studies in social movements and political communications. His pedagogical games continue to spawn both excitement and insights for participants, and his scholar‐activist model has inspired, and will likely continue to inspire, many.
