Abstract
Feminism and sociology have shaped each other in countless ways, but the degree and nature of how the two fields have impacted each other are complicated because the relationship between them has been variable and somewhat irregular, rather than one of steadily growing mutual influence. This is because sociology is a fragmented field, made up of multiple and varied subfields and approaches, and there are multiple and diverse feminisms. Nonetheless, feminist sociologists have created innovative and influential sociological theories and methods, while challenging sexism within the discipline.
