Experimental Stress Analysis of Four Fabricated Equal Diameter Branch Pipe Intersections Subjected to Moment Loadings and the Implications on Branch Junction Design

Abstract

Four 250 mm (10 inch) equal diameter branch junctions of different thickness have been subjected to all six external moment loadings that can occur in practice, together with internal pressure in one case. The results of detailed experimental stress analyses are presented and are discussed in the light of current American and British piping design codes.
