Abstract
The design of a die set, incorporating a hydraulic circuit is described, which allows press forging in completely closed cavities. The characteristics of the tool, when subjected to a range of practical forging variables, are investigated. Use of the die set for extended production runs shows that it is sufficiently robust for general work in drop forges.
