Fully Developed Turbulent Flow through Concentric Annuli

Abstract

Mean velocity data are presented for the fully-developed flow of air in three radius ratios of concentric annulus. The shear-stress distributions were determined by location of the zero-shear position with hot-wires, and by a sliding sleeve technique. This latter technique, although not entirely satisfactory, proved the reliability of the first method and allowed non-dimensional velocity profiles to be constructed with confidence. Zero-shear and maximum velocity surfaces do not coincide.
