Abstract
Amlodipine stands as a third-generation 1,4 Dihydropyridine (DHP) Calcium Antagonist, showcasing remarkable selectivity for vascular smooth muscle. It exhibits minimal impact on heart rate, without inducing negative inotropic or electrophysiological alterations. Amlodipine recommended for Atherosclerosis, Hypertension, and Stable Angina management, this Case Report delves into a prevalent adverse event associated with its use: Pedal Edema. In comparison to other Antihypertensive Medications, Amlodipine displays a heightened incidence of Pedal Edema. This case report details the situation of a 65-year-old male patient who is dealing with Hypertension. Over a span of 4 years, the patient had been on oral Amlodipine 5 mg, which led to the development of Pedal Edema. The symptoms saw resolution upon cessation of the medication, followed by a switch to an alternative Antihypertensive regimen. This study deepens our comprehension of Amlodipine's effects and facilitates early identification and mitigation of major adverse drug responses among patients.
