Abstract
The ready availability of computer graphics workstations in the early 1980s generated a need for fast, easy-to-use tools for creating, managing and modifying user interfaces. The designs of the many user interface management systems (UIMSs) developed to fulfill this need have been influenced by model architectures such as the Seeheim model (Green; Pfaff and ten Hagan), the Seattle model (Lantz et al.), MVC (Krasner & Pope), and its more modern successor PAC (Coutaz).
