Abstract

In recent years, there has been a marked increase in the number of peritonsillar abscesses not only in adults, but also in children. The aim of the work was to study the frequency of PA in non-angina form of chronic tonsillitis in children. We observed 116 children with chronic tonsillitis who underwent tonsillectomy in the period from September 30, 2017 to September 8, 2020. A peritonsillar abscess was observed in 19 % of children subjected to tonsillectomy, and in 8 of 22 patients (36 %) there were no indications of anamnesis of acute tonsillitis, although histological signs of chronic inflammation were found in the removed tonsils, which makes it possible to characterize the existing pathology as a non-angina form of chronic tonsillitis.
