Abstract
Abstract
Simulation has played an important part in studies of active matter systems, and this paper considers some aspects of the use of stochastic models for the behavior of active particles in complex media and in applications to active functional materials. The scope of the work is primarily focused on small active particles whose activity is derived from chemical reactions and diffusiophoretic mechanisms that operate in the presence of fluctuations. Both Langevin and particle-based models are considered, and their relative merits are discussed.
