Abstract
Objective: This study aims to analyze the most commonly used types of starch in the production of biodegradable products between the years 2022 and 2023, highlighting the predominance of cassava starch and its main applications.
Theoretical Framework: The research is grounded in sustainability concepts and the search for alternatives to conventional plastics, emphasizing polymers derived from renewable sources such as starch. Theoretical discussions on the physical and chemical properties of biodegradable materials are also explored.
Method: An analysis of 20 studies retrieved from the CAPES journal portal was conducted using search terms related to starch and biodegradable products. The methodology included specific study selection, data analysis, and categorization of the main types of starches and generated products.
Results and Discussion: The results reveal that cassava starch was the most commonly used, present in 60% of the analyzed studies. The most common products were biodegradable films, representing 59.09% of the total production, with diverse applications in food packaging and medical dressings.
Research Implications: Practical implications include the potential of cassava starch to replace non-biodegradable plastics, promoting sustainable practices in the industry. Theoretically, the research contributes to advancing knowledge on biodegradable materials and their applications.
Originality/Value: This study highlights its originality by emphasizing the predominance of cassava starch in a recent analysis of research, demonstrating its value as a viable and economical alternative to traditional materials. The findings provide valuable insights for researchers and professionals interested in sustainable development.
