Total Synthesis of (±)-Trachylobane, a Pentacyclic Diterpenoid with a Tricyclooctane System

Abstract

A total synthesis of (±)-trachylobane, a pentacyclic diterpenoid possessing a tricyclo[3.2.1.02,7]octane system, is described. Completion of the synthesis of trachylobane confirms the validity of the structure assigned to this diterpenoid and provides corroboration of structures assigned to diterpenoids from which it has been obtained as a conversion product.
