Abstract
The incorporation of 14C-phenylalanine into peptide was measured in microsome and ribosome preparations of control and nephrotic rat liver homogenates. Microsomes and ribosomes were incubated with liver postmicrosomal supernatant (S105) and 14C-phenylalanine. Ribosomes were incubated with a control liver transferase preparation and 14C-phenylalanyl-tRNA. In the nephrotic preparations the incorporation of 14C-phenylalanine was greater than it was in the control preparations either with endogenous mRNA or poly U. Since ribonuclease activity did not differ in control and nephrotic preparations and since using bentonite to inhibit ribonuclease did not change the nephrotic effect, the increased incorporation could not be attributed to decreased ribonuclease activity.
