Abstract
The reaction of trifluoroiodomethane with tetraphenylcyclotetraphosphine leads to the formation of phenylbistrifluoromethylphosphine and phenyltrifluoromethyliodophosphine. The mechanism of the reaction is discussed and the physical and chemical properties of these compounds are reported. Bromine reacts with phenylbistrifluoromethylphosphine to form phenylbistrifluoromethyldibromophosphorane which is hvdrolyzed to phenyltrifluoromethylphosphinic acid, C6H5(CF3)P(O)OH.
