Abstract
A recently reported mathematical treatment is analyzed, which improves the detection of structures located over a strong continuum. This method does not have the drawbacks of the commonly used differentiation and may be used as an adjustable filter, selecting structures according to their natural width. Detection of autoionizing states in argon and measurement of the energy shift between the ionization thresholds of H2 and D2 are presented, as examples of application.
