Abstract
Ten bands of SbN shaded to the red appear in the spectra produced by a microwave discharge through SbCl5 + N2 + He or Sb + N2. We show the bands primitively ascribed to this radical are bands of Sb2.The bands of SbN are from the A1Π–X1Σ+ transition. Their rotational analysis unambiguously gives the nature of the radical by isotopic effect study. The constants of the X1Σ+ ground state are derived and the vibrational and rotational perturbations in the A1Π state are observed. Finally, a discussion on the perturbing states is proposed.
