Abstract
Partially purified catechol O-methyltransferase (COMT) was obtained from both rat liver and brain and the properties of the two preparations were compared. The enzymes had the same pH optimum, heat and pH stability, ionic requirements, and response to inhibitors. Both had a molecular weight of approximately 25 000. They differed only in the fact that the brain COMT had one less activity band and [Formula: see text]th the specific activity of the liver enzyme.
