Abstract
On the basis of potentiometric study of the system[Formula: see text]in sulfolane, the dissociation constant of the reaction [Formula: see text] has been found to be [Formula: see text] assuming that the chlorodisulfate ion is completely dissociated to SO3Cl− and SO3. The equilibrium constants of the reactions[Formula: see text]have been determined on the one hand by complexation of SO3 with H2SO4, and on the other by the difference of acidity between HCl and HSO3Cl. The acidity constant of HSO3Cl (k = 10−4.4) is slightly higher than that of H2S207 (k = 10−5). The sulfonating power of some compounds have been found to follow the order [Formula: see text]
