Abstract
A characteristic equation is investigated which is related to a perfectly conducting infinite circular cylinder immersed in a homogeneous magnetoionic medium with the magnetic field parallel to the cylinder axis. It is found that in most cases one root of the characteristic equation contributes to the current on the cylinder surface when the contour of integration for the Fourier transform representation of the current is deformed into the path of steepest descent. Zeroth-order expressions for the admittance of a thin infinite antenna are given and compared to existing results based on numerical integration of the Fourier integral.
