Abstract
Doppler-broadened annihilation lines from annealed and deformed aluminum samples were measured simultaneously by a Ge(Li) spectrometer. The spectrum was automatically separated into its components by routing signals from auxiliary NaI(Tl) detectors, using the collinearity of annihilation radiation. This differential mode allowed drift-free measurement of recovery at 300 K over a period of 2 weeks. The binding energy of positrons to edge dislocations in aluminum was determined to be 1.7 ± 0.4 eV.
