The genus Elymus in Canada—Bowden's generic concept and key reappraised and relectotypification of E. canadensis

Abstract

Bowden's (Bowden, W. M. 1964. Can. J. Bot. 42: 547–601) Elymus treatment for Canada has been emended on the following aspects: (1) Additional characters have been taken from micromorphology of the lodicules of species closely resembling each other to achieve better identification. (2) Some characters have been redefined and a new identification key has been constructed. (3) The species have been reclassified into several genera; these are Elymus, Leymus, × Elyleymus (new hybrid genus), Terrellia, × Terrelymus (new hybrid genus), Asperella, Aneurolepidium, and Psathyrostachys.
