Abstract
The ascocarp of Platyspora pentamera (Karst.) Wehm. develops from a pseudoparenchymatous initial. Central cells separate and are displaced by downward-growing pseudoparaphyses which appear to give rise to ascogenous hyphae at the base of the centrum. The ostiole is lysigenous in origin. The developmental pattern is of the Pleospora type.
