Abstract
Fats of a polar bear and a seal were analyzed. It was found in both samples that the polyenoic fatty acids preferably occupy the α-positions and, especially, position 3. Position 2 contains short acids, and position 1 contains the longer and more saturated acids. It is suggested that this distribution pattern is typical for mammals feeding on marine fats.
